Tulum A Walled City

Tulum
Tulum

Tulum is located in the heart of the Riviera Maya between white sand beaches and  rain forest. This enigmatic Mayan city dating from the twelfth and sixteenth centuries, is the only one that was built by the sea.

The old walled city, built on top of a cliff of 12 meters overlooking the Caribbean Sea, has the remains of one of the most exquisite and important cities of the ancient Mayan world.
The tallest building and most important of Tulum is known as El Castillo. Built in several stages, on an imposing staircase, is crowned by a temple, which is entered by a portico of columns carved in the shape of snakes. The castle is surrounded by temples, houses and monuments, extending inland to the current entry to the archaeological complex. Among these buildings the most relevant are, the Temple of the Sea, the Temple of Wind, Northwest House, several temples, the Temple of the Descending God and the Cenote House, built on a typical cavity that collects rainwater leaks from the surface.

Tulum is definitely the ideal destination for eco-archaeological nature lovers, sun, and history.
